Making Democracy Work

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization made up of women and men of all ages and backgrounds which encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The League accomplishes its mission by registering voters, holding debates and public forums, advocating for positions to influence public policy, and providing resources to help inform voters.

Editor's Note

This organization calls itself "nonpartisan", but I don't believe it. They have a long list of positions--"Where We Stand"--on many issues. Why would a nonpartisan organization even have such a section at all? I say this as a person who had a long-running radio show about poverty, and I was staunchly neutral. My guests had positions; I didn't, and I certainly didn't post any position statements on my website. My only position was to be friendly and welcoming to my guests, regardless of their viewpoint. As far as I can tell, the LWV is a "progressive" organization, so I've added a category to that effect. Please correct me if I'm wrong. ~Paul 22:44, 6 January 2018 (EST)
