The Philadelphia Historical Commission gives the following descriptive information:

Established in 1955, the Philadelphia Historical Commission is the City of Philadelphia’s regulatory agency responsible for ensuring the preservation of historically significant buildings, structures, sites, objects, interiors and districts in Philadelphia.

The Commission reviews building permit applications for alterations to buildings on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places; designates historic properties; provides technical information; and reviews Section 106 applications.
