'''Hillary Kane''' is the Director for the '''[[Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development (PHENND)]]'''. PHENND is a consortium of over 25 institutions of higher education in the Greater Philadelphia region that seeks to help campuses connect to their communities through mutually beneficial service and service-learning partnerships. Since Ms. Kane joined PHENND in 1999, the organization has increased its membership, developed new multi-university programs and partnerships, and become a leader in the field of service-learning. Under her leadership, PHENND has developed particular expertise in K-16 Partnerships, with an emphasis on college readiness and success. PHENND has partnered with the School District of Philadelphia for over 15 years on all of its GEAR UP grants as well as the K-16 VISTA project which places 20 full-time AmeriCorps VISTAs in public schools and District offices. PHENND also manages the Next Steps AmeriCorps program, which enrolls low-income college students as part-time AmeriCorps members. Last year, PHENND acquired PHENND Fellows, another full-time VISTA project that places members at nonprofit organizations for a variety of capacity-building projects. Hillary is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies. She is also member of the Greater Philadelphia Corporate Volunteer Council, is active in local politics, and is a proud School District parent.
'''Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center''', located in Manayunk, opened in October 2014. A park, recreation and performance center, Venice Island functions as both '''a community space and a green stormwater infrastructure hub''' between the Manayunk Canal and Schuylkill River.

Built on the site of an existing recreation center, the idea for the current Venice Island was established over a decade ago as a collaborative effort between several city departments (chief among them Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Philadelphia Water) and nonprofit organizations, like the Manayunk Development Corporation.

The purpose of the Venice Island Performing Arts Center is to:
*Enhance the cultural experience and cultivate a deeper appreciation of the arts in the citizens of Philadelphia.
*Improve the breadth, and quality, diversity of creative opportunities for Philadelphians of all ages participating in recreation and city department programs.
*See that Venice Island is a vibrant, thriving destination enjoyed by residents and visitors of Philadelphia and the Manayunk community for years to come.
'''Girls on the Run''' has '''fun, evidence-based programs that inspire participants''' to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others.

At Girls on the Run Philadelphia, teaching essential life skills is the cornerstone of our research-based programs. '''We've encouraged and empowered thousands of children to aim high.''' Here's how:

''Education:'' Middle school students from the most scholastically challenged institutions in our region are brought to our workplace. We expose them to careers in medicine, law, journalism, politics and clergy to name a few, but most importantly we give them a ''plan of how to become'' these professions.

''Mentorship:'' Our students have an opportunity to be paired with a professional in the field which they have the greatest affinity. Additionally, rising 9th grade students are eligible for summer internships to further hone the skills of their chosen career. These internships may continue throughout high school. Both allow for a year long continuation of the mentor mentee relationship.

''Facilitation:'' Homelessness of our students, diminished parental/guardian participation and scarce personnel and resources of our sister institutions are the most common barriers to programmatic success among our students. We provide administrative assistance to our institutions so that participation is not burdensome.

''Note:'' The above descriptive information came from the organization's [https://ittakesphilly.org/#about About] page. This organization has its headquarters in Jenkintown.
