A local "umbrella" organization for recruiting and coordinating volunteers is United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

The website Volunteer Match Volunteer Match is used by many Philadelphia nonprofits to make announcements, so it's an essential visit for a volunteer in search of a great gig in Philly. It is not as good for South Jersey; we hope more South Jersey groups will start posting. The City, through the Mayor's Office of Engagement and Volunteer Service, runs a search engine for volunteers. See SERVE Philadelphia.
