This Wikidelphia resource page gives you a few suggestions to get started volunteering in Philadelphia:

The first suggestion we'd like to make is our very own Wikidelphia, of course. By going to our Category: Using Volunteers, you can see a long list of organizations that use volunteers. Pick an organization that may interest you, and when you go to its Wikidelphia entry, look under the "Info" heading, where you'll probably find a handy link that takes you directly to the organization's volunteer page.

A local "umbrella" organization for recruiting and coordinating volunteers is United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. Here's a direct link to their volunteer page: Volunteer (unitedforimpact.org/get-involved/volunteer).

The website Volunteer Match (volunteermatch.org), which requires free registration, is used by many Philadelphia nonprofits to make announcements, so it's an essential visit for a volunteer in search of a great gig in Philly. It is not as good for South Jersey; we hope more South Jersey groups will start posting. For your convenience in seeing a good example of Volunteer Match, here's a link to get a snapshot of opportunities in the central Philadelphia area and outward: volunteermatch.org/search?l=19102.

The City, through the Mayor's Office of Engagement and Volunteer Service, runs a search engine for volunteers called SERVE Philadelphia. Here's their volunteer search page: Match Your Passion with Action (serve.volunteermatch.org/search).

Idealist also posts searchable opportunities (idealist.org/en/?searchMode=true&type=VOLOP) for volunteers, as does All For Good, here: allforgood.org/search.

Yet another database of volunteer opportunities is found at 2-1-1 SEPA: Give Help: Volunteer (211sepa.org/give-help/volunteer).

Craigslist is a less organized, occasionally useful engine:
