Volunteering in Philadelphia
Here are a few suggestions to get you started volunteering in Philadelphia:
A local "umbrella" organization for recruiting and coordinating volunteers is United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.
The website Volunteer Match Volunteer Match is used by many Philadelphia nonprofits to make announcements, so it's an essential visit for a volunteer in search of a great gig in Philly. It is not so good for South Jersey. For your convenience in seeing a good example, here's a link to get a snapshot of opportunities in the central Philadelphia area: volunteermatch.org/search?l=19102.
The City, through the Mayor's Office of Engagement and Volunteer Service, runs a search engine for volunteers. See SERVE Philadelphia.
Idealist idealist.org also posts searchable opportunities for volunteers, as does All For Good allforgood.org/volunteers.
Craigslist is a less organized, occasionally useful engine:
- Philadelphia: philadelphia.craigslist.org/search/vol
- South Jersey: southjersey.craigslist.org/search/vol
- Delaware: delaware.craigslist.org/search/vol
