Pennsylvania SPCA gives the following descriptive information:

Our mission is to protect animals, prevent animal cruelty and improve the health and quality of life for animals in Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania SPCA is the second humane organization founded in the United States and is the largest and most comprehensive in Pennsylvania. We have been the leading advocate for animals in our region since 1867.

A common misperception is that all “SPCA’s” are related; however, the Pennsylvania SPCA is an independent organization and is not a branch of any other humane society. Our headquarters are in Philadelphia, where the PSPCA was founded nearly 150 years ago. Today, we also have a branch shelter in Danville, Montour County that is open daily for adoptions and offers vaccine clinics for the public.

Throughout the years we have been dedicated to improving the lives of Pennsylvania’s animals through our core programs, each of which is entirely funded by our generous supporters:

  • A humane law enforcement department that responds to situations of animal cruelty and neglect;
  • Humane education classes and presentations for community members of all ages;
  • An animal shelter to house the animals we have rescued;
  • An adoptions center with counselors dedicated to placing pets in forever homes;
  • A foster program to arrange temporary in-home care for pets that are too young for adoption or are healing from a medical condition;
  • Low-cost wellness and spay/neuter clinics providing veterinary services to clients in the Philadelphia region; and
  • A Shelter Hospital to treat shelter pets with critical injuries and illnesses;
  • Behavior and training support for pet owners.

The organization is headquartered in Juniata Park/Feltonville.
