Philadelphia Futures is a nonprofit organization that provides Philadelphia's low-income, first-generation-to-college students with the tools, resources and opportunities necessary for admission to and success in college. We transform lives by breaking down the barriers that have historically excluded low-income, first-generation-to-college students from achieving college success. The students Philadelphia Futures serves are provided with a comprehensive, time-tested array of programs designed to reduce the institutional, academic, social and financial barriers to college success.

The Path to Success Starts Here

By 2020, it is estimated that 65% of U.S. jobs will require some form of postsecondary education. Further, postsecondary education is also increasingly the only route to upward mobility. The lowest-income Americans who obtain a college degree are five times more likely than their peers to escape poverty.

We are guided by the principle that a college education is the key to economic self-sufficiency and a satisfying life.

Founded in 1989, Philadelphia Futures has made a profound difference in the lives of thousands of students through the power of education. White-Williams Scholars, dating back to 1800, had a long and highly regarded reputation of providing low-income students with the financial resources necessary to support their academic goals in high school. The two organizations joined with the intention of combining resources and assets in the pursuit of a common purpose – to provide low-income, first-generation-to-college students with the tools, resources, and opportunities necessary for admission to and success in college.

Note:  The above description came from the organization's About Us page.
