One of the reasons the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team exists.

Pets Are Family Too

Red Paw is an emergency response nonprofit organization run by firefighters that responds to residential fires and disasters in Philadelphia to provide emergency assistance on-scene to residents affected with pets. Services include search & rescue, emergency transport and emergency shelter resources.

More than half of homes in the United States have at least two pets. 92% of pet owners consider their pets to be part of their family. Pet owners spend $70 billion a year on their pets. In the U.S. a fire department responds to a fire every 23 secs. 500k pets are affected by fires & sadly, 40k pets die in fires annually. Fire departments need to take citizens with pets into consideration when planning for and responding to residential fires and disasters in their communities.

With ten years of data we can prove that the services Red Paw provided on-scene of residential fires and disasters is not only needed but was successful. We believe that in order for these services to be sustainable and replicable they must be implemented into the fire service.
