United Communities Southeast Philadelphia (UCSEP)
United Communities Southeast Philadelphia has a long and rich tradition of service to children, adults, and families residing in Southeast Philadelphia. United Communities was established in 1969 through the merger of three settlement houses that date back to 1847. For the past 48 years, United Communities has carried out the original settlement mission to promote the educational and economic advancement of individuals and families within its host neighborhoods.
Through our years of service, we have established and maintained strong relationships with local schools and community-based organizations. Our partnerships with other organizations have enabled United Communities to enhance its programming for youth and increase the visibility of our agency.
United Communities currently operates two facilities, each of which serves as a major hub for community resources and spirit in three very low income, diverse areas of Southeast Philadelphia: the Houston Center (8th Street and Snyder Avenue) and Southwark House (Front & Ellsworth Street). In addition, United Communities also operates afterschool programs at the Sharswood Elementary, Southwark Elementary, Vare-Washington Elementary, and Fell Elementary Schools as well as Furness High School.
The Client Services Department is designed to assist families in a holistic manner by improving their quality of life and movement towards self-sufficiency through a variety of social service programs and resources. All clients must go through an initial intake process which includes completing an assessment to clarify household circumstances which will allow us to target appropriate programs and resources.
United Communities Southeast Philadelphia’s Case Management programs, conducted primarily in the home, are offered free of charge to families in their designated service areas. Case Managers connect families with community resources to meet a variety of goals through making referrals and linkages.
