Start

I'll start the debate - I have no text to propose yet though. Shollingsworth 01:54, 15 January 2011 (PST)

Hi, Steve. Rather than starting to work on the vision and mission at this stage, it might be easier to ask people to make suggestions about what they'd like to see as topic names on the main page. Topic names like NEIGHBORHOODS, FAMOUS PHILADELPHIANS, PERSONAL STORIES, OP-ED DISCUSSIONS, PHILADELPHIA POLITICS, etc. might be suggested.
I think it's important to start with this kind of discussion since it's directly relevant to the structure we're trying to build and it doesn't require getting to consensus too fast. Once we have decided on our initial front page topics, we might find that the vision and mission concepts come together more readily.Stan 07:50, 15 January 2011 (PST)
Okay, we can do that path.
Any specific article anyone else wants can easily be put on Wikidelphia:Requested articles. Shollingsworth 11:53, 15 January 2011 (PST)

NPO info request

I have a request I'd like to start with - a "data" one as opposed to anything at all controversial. I'd like to make a list of - literally - every NPO in Philadelphia (and later the surrounding areas) and then invite each one to contribute to a page on itself. I just did a Google search on Philadelphia Nonprofit. It brought back a number of good sources. One of interest is a report written in 2000 titled "Mapping Nonprofits in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania." It's a .pdf file and you can download it. It mentions that there are over 4,000 nonprofits in the city but doesn't list them all. About 10 years ago I downloaded a list from the IRS for the state of Pennsylvania. It had lots (perhaps 40,000) organizations listed. Stan 16:35, 15 January 2011 (PST)
Thanks, I will be reading the PDF (which I've made an external link in the article). I'm still cautiously optimistic about the possibility of making the article usable. Shollingsworth 16:53, 15 January 2011 (PST)
