Historic Germantown is a partnership of 16 extraordinary historic houses, destinations, and museums in Northwest Philadelphia that have joined together to protect, preserve, and share some of Philadelphia's prized historical assets.

In 2012 two well-respected institutions of Germantown history took a big step toward a united future, when the boards and memberships of Historic Germantown and The Germantown Historical Society voted unanimously to merge their organizations, combining under the banner of Historic Germantown: Freedom’s Backyard. The merger is an outgrowth of Historic Germantown’s recent efforts to foster closer collaboration among 16 historic sites and cultural institutions located in Northwest Philadelphia.
