A Blade of Grass
A Blade of Grass introduces itself with the line, "Nurtures socially engaged art," and gives the following descriptive information:
A Blade of Grass Nurtures Socially Engaged Art
We provide resources to artists who demonstrate artistic excellence and serve as innovative conduits for social change. We evaluate the quality of work in this evolving field by fostering an inclusive, practical discourse about the aesthetics, function, ethics and meaning of socially engaged art that resonates within and outside the contemporary art dialogue.
Fellowship Program
We support individual artists and collectives who are working in leadership roles and in partnership with communities, in ways that are relevant in everyday life, at ambitious scale, to enact social change.
Fieldworks
FIELDWORKS is a short documentary series presented by A Blade of Grass that explores the beauty, rigor, and impact of socially engaged art through its ABOG Fellow initiatives. Season One, featuring our inaugural class of ABOG Fellows for Socially Engaged Art, is now online.
Public Programs
Our public programs examine the meaning, value, and challenges of socially engaged art from diverse perspectives. Join us at Parallel Fields for conversations between artists and non-artists tackling similar issues in different ways; at Aesthetics of Doing for tough questions on topics like utopia and community organizing; at Reports from the Field to learn from community participants and collaborators; and for annual Fellowship Workshops and collaborative events.
Discuss Forums
Our discussion forums enrich and expand our understanding of how socially engaged art is practiced. Explore lively online debates in Growing Dialogue; read in-depth essays in Fertile Ground; discover participants’ stories in Reports from the Field; and learn more about our organizational perspective and process in Lay of the Land.
A Blade of Grass is based in New York, New York.
