Accessible Pharmacy Services for the Blind is a comprehensive, home delivery pharmacy service specializing in the needs of people who are blind, DeafBlind and have low vision. They are the only provider of its kind and the largest blind-owned healthcare company in the country.

Accessible Pharmacy Services was started by Dr. Alex Cohen, PhD, Dr Jason Barrett, PharmD and Andy Burstein. Dr. Cohen was diagnosed with a degenerative retinal disease known as Retinitis Pigmentosa in his late teens which robbed him of his vision. Upon graduating college,Dr. Cohen continued to pursue his academic research and ultimately earned his PhD in marketing with a focus on consumer accessibility for the blind community.  He wrote his doctoral dissertation on the accessibility of the top 100 retailers in the United States for blind consumers.

While conducting his research he identified the limited accessibility and enormous challenges relating to pharmacies. While most pharmacies make efforts to be accessible, none of the large retailers offer a complete solution to support patients with vision loss.  Mismanagement of medication and healthcare is one of the leading causes of death in America and there are a combination of existing solutions that can assist an individual.

Dr Cohen and his business partners launched Accessible Pharmacy Services for the Blind specifically with that mission. These efforts help people to be more independent, experience less stress, and ultimately, live healthier lives.  Accessible Pharmacy is just scratching the surface with how it can support patients. Accessible Pharmacy has created a patient driven, collaborative environment that encourages patients and organizations that support individuals with vision loss, to share ideas about accessibility and services. Before Accessible Pharmacy, a comprehensive model like this did not exist for blind, DeafBlind and low-vision individuals.

Accessible Pharmacy Services for the Blind is the organizer of the Annual Blind Health Expo. The EXPO brings together thousands of attendees including consumers, non-profits, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, assistive technology manufacturers and government agencies.
