A diverse and secular member-based network; dedicated to the empowerment of unschooling/self-directed families through community, connection and awareness that reflect the cultural and interest-driven needs of our children.

ELN was founded by Maleka Diggs, an Afro-Vincentian, married and momma of two unschooling daughters. A natural learner and networker, Ms. Diggs saw a need to bring more learning and connecting opportunities to the forefront in Philadelphia - and the Eclectic Learning Network was born.

Her journey started with virtual school, followed by homeschooling; but, it was unschooling that lit the spark to greater awareness of her children and herself. The process of deschooling (phasing out the traditional model of education) is a continuous journey that manifested in the most beautiful way. Truly listening and observing her children as well as herself lead to a major discovery.

School is not synonymous with learning and when children are genuinely interested, it extends engagement and generates retention.

Eclectic Learning Network creates a passageway for children to engage in interest-based and self-directed learning opportunities without fear of failure.

Philadelphia along with many other cities are experiencing inadequate access to resources and funding that support the academic enrichment to prepare our children for the leadership of tomorrow. Access to quality education and resources should be obtainable for all young people. Maleka has made it her mission to shift the paradigm of education; providing year-round learning opportunities not only for her children, but Philadelphia homeschool families who are seeking a similar network of support.

Eclectic Learning Network is your destination for beginning or modifying your home education journey with ease. Providing workshops supporting academic enrichment and social awareness, private consultations, events, clubs, field trips, and resources that revitalize the joy of learning reflecting the cultural and interest-driven needs of our children one family at a time.
