This blog is about urban agriculture in Philadelphia. I started it in the spring of 2014, my second year of community gardening in my new home town. Philadelphia is the 12th place I’ve lived.  It quickly became one of my favorites.  My most recent past home town was Blawenburg, a crossroads hamlet near Princeton,Mark Thompson New Jersey, where I spent three years. Before that, I lived for 25 years in Los Angeles. Let others complain about the winters here in Philadelphia.  After a quarter century of gardening in one-and-a-half season L.A., I’ve relished the challenge of gardening in a region where the seasons change dramatically every several months.

Urban Agriculture in the City of Brotherly Love

In my work life, I’m an editor at Current History magazine, and write on the side about history and law, among other things. Go to MTportfolio for more about me, my books and my various other web sites, which include CharlesLummis.com, SeasonalChef.com, Vintage California Cuisine, and Vintage Vegetarian Cuisine.

Here on Farming Philly, I’ll cover this city’s vibrant and diverse urban agriculture and community gardening scene. And I’ll write about how I’m doing in my own backyard and community gardens, and how my garden neighbors and friends are doing with theirs.
