H. Victoria Hargro Atkerson, an Atlanta native, living in Philadelphia, is a masterful storyteller.

H. Victoria Hargro Atkerson was born in a large close knit family in Atlanta, Georgia where storytelling was a regular family activity. Raised in the segregated south when blacks were considered second class citizens, she grew up knowing the value of human rights and the responsibility of each person in securing those rights. H. Victoria lives in Philadelphia, PA where she practices the art of writing, an occupation she hold dear because for many years this country permitted policies and laws that did not permit blacks to read or write. During the Civil Rights Movement of the 50's and 60's, she marched with Martin Luther King, Jr., Julian Bond, and Stokely Carmichael. Leaving College at Morris Brown, Victoria joined the Peace Corps in Brazil, serving in the Food for Peace Program, the School-to-School Program, Family Planning, organizing and participating in Summer Programs for youth in remote areas of Espirito Santo and Rio de Janeiro. After returning to the States, Victoria worked for many years with Dependent/Neglected children and youth.

  • Presently, Victoria has five books in publications and is expecting to release two more this year. During her free time, she teaches writing and black history in her community, and lectures on writing while traveling around the country selling her books. When Victoria is not writing, she can be found knitting, quilting, baking, camping, fishing, or crabbing on the Jersey Shore.
