Kensington VoiceKensington Voice THE PUBLICATION

About Kensington Voice Editorial mission Kensington Voice is a community-driven news initiative that amplifies traditionally underserved voices, illuminates the neighborhood’s complexity, challenges, and resilience, and explores existing and potential solutions to problems facing the heart of Kensington. Community engagement and service are central to our mission, so each month, community members have a say in the topics we write about and are invited to participate in our reporting process.

The publication We publish one monthly, online, bilingual issue with three sections connected by a theme or topic suggested by the community. Those sections include:

Voices: Personal essays, perspectives, opinions, and responses News features: Long-form multimedia stories Solutions: Spotlights on people and organizations taking action, and existing and potential resources and models We also publish a community story corner, which runs parallel to our official publication, through which we feature work produced by community members during our biweekly community story corner workshops.

All of our content is published here on www.kensingtonvoice.com. Our media partners are also allowed to republish our material with proper attribution because we believe that local news organizations should work together to strengthen Philadelphia’s news ecosystem instead of in competition. We owe tremendous thanks to Resolve Philadelphia for inspiring us to work collaboratively.

Currently, our newsroom operates as a pop-up, available two days each week for two hours in two locations accessible to the public.

During our pop-ups, our editors and reporters collect questions, story ideas, sources, and general feedback from community members.

We also host a public editorial meeting every other Wednesday to discuss recent and upcoming issues. Members of the community are invited to attend, pitch story ideas, suggest sources, and offer guidance to reporters on their reporting and production process during that time.

We will never stop growing in order to meet the needs of the community, but we need your feedback to help us evolve. If you have any comments or suggestions about the way we do things or how we could improve our work to better serve you, please stop by one of our events, send us an email at editors@kensingtonvoice.com, or send us a direct message via Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
