Conveniently located on the Avenue of the Arts North, near Temple University and next door to the legendary Blue Horizon, Freedom Theatre is a beautiful, historically certified facility that has many spaces available for your special occasion. The 60,000 square foot facility contains both large and intimate spaces including small classrooms, meeting rooms, a large party/reception room with kitchen, a beautiful private reception lobby (formerly the double fire-placed parlor of Shakespearean actor Edwin Forrest) and the 299-seat state-of-the-art John E. Allen, Jr. Theatre. Freedom is probably the only theatre in Philadelphia to offer free off-street parking! The Septa "C" bus stops right at our door, and the Broad Street subway stops at Girard Avenue, a short two-block walk. We couldn't be more conveniently located! Whether a wedding reception, film screening, a family reunion, corporate convention, community meeting or a performance requiring a large professional stage, Freedom Theatre is the perfect choice for your event!

John Allen, Jr. and Robert E. Leslie, Sr. The founders of NewFreedom Theatre.

New Freedom Theatre gives the following descriptive information:

New Freedom Theatre is celebrating 50 years of excellence in arts education, professional productions and community engagement. We continued that tradition with the introduction of Guest Artistic Directors in 2014.

Ozzie Jones served in that position for one year. We then appointed Rajendra Ramoon Marahaj as Guest Artistic Director in 2015 and Artistic Director in 2016.

"Freedom showed that theater is not about bright lights and big budgets, but rather the stories through which we find the ability to discover ourselves." (Philadelphia Weekly)

Today, New Freedom celebrates its 50th anniversary with a renovated facility, Barrymore Award winning programs and Barrymore Nominated productions.
