The Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ) is a non-profit organization based in Philadelphia, Pa. The organization formed in 1973 out of concern about the lack of quality coverage about Philadelphia’s black community, and a scarcity of black journalists in the regions’ newsrooms. The small, but inspired group of journalists that organized later became the backbone of a group that assembled in Washington, D.C. two years later to create the National Association of Black Journalists. Thus, PABJ became NABJ's founding chapter.

For more than 35 years, PABJ has continued to advocate for more consistent, quality coverage of the regions’ minority communities and for better representation of the journalists in them. In addition, PABJ serves as an active community partner through community outreach programs including the annual media access workshop, Communications Technology High School Partnership, and annual scholarship and awards program. Working to make a difference every day, we hope that you will be able to help PABJ continue it’s positive impact in the Delaware Valley by becoming a member, participating in our programs, or supporting our projects.
