The Philadelphia Marathon gives the following descriptive information:

Since our first race in 1994, we have grown from a small local event to one of the top-10 marathons in the country.

Race Weekend 2015 begins on Friday, November 20 and will culminate on Sunday, November 22. Race Weekend activities include the Health & Fitness Expo, Rothman Institute 8K, and Kids Fun Run—all leading up to the GORE-TEX® Marathon and Half Marathon races on Sunday.

Our beautiful and scenic course takes runners past historic landmarks like Independence Hall, Benjamin Franklin's Burial Place, the National Constitution Center and the Liberty Bell, through urban neighborhoods such as Old City, University City, South Philadelphia and Manayunk, and along the picturesque waterfronts of the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers.

And you'd better get ready for the crowds. Each year, spectators line the course, eager to cheer on runners, because there's nothing we love more in this town than champions.
