College of Physicians of Philadelphia

Birthplace of American Medicine

We are a not for profit medical, educational, and cultural institution with the mission of advancing the cause of health while upholding the ideals and heritage of medicine.

Everything we do works towards the goal of connecting the historical to the contemporary. Our audience includes not only the medical community and medical students but students in middle school through graduate school, artists, humanities researchers and scholars, and members of the general public. The unique focus of The College of Physicians combines science, public health and medicine, the arts, and humanities.

The College is home to:

  • The Mütter Museum.
  • The Historical Medical Library.
  • Benjamin Rush Medicinal Plant Garden.

Our outreach programs include:

  • History of Vaccines.
  • Center for Education.
