Christ Church
Christ Church gives the following descriptive information:
Each week, we mean it when we say, Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome at Christ Church, as you are, to receive the riches of God's blessings, so freely given.
We're on the same spot in the heart of the city of Philadelphia where prayers were first said in 1695. "No church played a more important role in the American Revolution," says a prominent historian. Seven signers of the Declaration of Independence are buried in our hallowed ground, giving rise to the moniker the Nation's Church.
Yet at 315 years old, Christ Church has still only just begun - and we still need all pilgrims and seekers to help us discern our way. We invite you -- for one Sunday or for many -- to help what has been nicknamed Old Christ Church become New Christ Church. Together, we listen for God's voice to beckon us into the next revolution, which today we hear as a call to an inclusive community of radical welcome, standing fast in service to Philadelphia, proud of our traditions of worship from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, yet seeking new prayers, music, and interpretations of Holy Scripture that will expand our trust in the magnitude of God's grace.
No word is more worn out in the our churches than Welcome, so we simply ask you to join us and help us as we seek to understand how God calls us all to feast at God's Welcome Table.
