The Paul Robeson House & Museum in Philadelphia tells the story of the life and accomplishments of its namesake. Robeson was an actor, singer, scholar and activist who spoke out against oppression all over the world. He lived in the house with his sister for the last 10 years of his life. The house was purchased in 1994 by the West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, which itself had been formed a decade earlier with the mission to use the arts as means of social change. Under the leadership of Frances P. Aulston, the house underwent a restoration that was completed in 2015. The house hosts the Paul Robeson Chess Club, partners with local high schools and the University of Pennsylvania, and holds community programs and events.
