Our Mission

Serving children and strengthening families has been Caring People Alliance's mission for over 75 years. We empower Philadelphia children and youth to become positive citizens, decision-makers and leaders by providing them, their families and their elders with high quality, community-based programs and services that promote character building, educational achievement, healthy lifestyles and teamwork.

History

Founded in 1932 by Philadelphia philanthropist Samuel S. Fels and District Attorney Charles Edwin Fox as Crime Prevention Association, the original mission of the organization was to provide productive activities for Philadelphia’s young men who were unemployed during the Great Depression. While our services have greatly expanded since those early days, we have stayed true to the founding vision of providing services to assure that Philadelphia’s youth have the support and resources they need to develop into productive citizens. In 2001, we changed our name to Caring People Alliance to more accurately reflect the current scope of our programs and services.

Caring People Alliance, an affiliate of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is one of the Philadelphia region's most comprehensive human service agencies. Our primary focus is on children and youth and the matters that most affect them. As such, we also nurture their support system - both families and older adults. We offer a wide range of programs and services through our three Community Centers, Family and Parenting Services, Treatment Foster Care, and Child Care Quality and Information Services. Caring People Alliance serves an estimated 11,000 individuals and another 500 families each year through our three community centers, and an additional 25,000 members of the community through Child Care Information Services.

Treatment Foster Care

Operating out of our West Philadelphia Community Center, Treatment Foster Care is a distinct, powerful model of care that combines the best elements of traditional foster care and residential treatment centers. In Treatment Foster Care, the positive aspects of a nurturing and therapeutic family environment are combined with active, structured treatment. This program is geared to service adolescents, providing individualized and intensive treatment for delinquent and dependent clients. We also operate a satellite office in Williamsport, PA, where 10 advocate homes are available to children from the Southeast Pennsylvania region.

West Philadelphia Community Center

The West Philadelphia Community Center (WPCC) is a two-story, fully accessible, 40,000-square-foot facility at 3512 Haverford Avenue that provides services for the youngest child through the oldest adult. WPCC includes a large community room/cafeteria, commercial kitchen, full-size gymnasium with stage, competition swimming pool and various class and meeting rooms.
